05.22.06

Columbia, SC – UnitrendsTM, a pioneer in the development of Business Systems Continuity solutions, today announced the appointment of industry veteran Steve Hammond as the company's Senior Vice President of Business Development. With more than two decades of experience in areas such as data protection, alliance development and brand awareness, Hammond will be responsible for positioning and strengthening Unitrends for growth in new vertical markets, and for driving and expanding the company's strategic partnerships.

Mr. Hammond joins Unitrends from Miami-based Data Protection Services (DPS), where he served as executive vice president the data protection and recovery firm. In that role, he led the development of corporate strategy around the production and delivery of "bare metal" recovery controllers, designed to enable companies to recover crashed computer operating systems in a fraction of the time normally required.

"Steve Hammond has an established, consistent track record of excellence across multiple aspects of the high-tech industry which are critical to Unitrends' long-term success," stated Sterling Wharton, Unitrends' President and Chief Executive Officer. "His knowledge of the data protection and disaster recovery markets, and his ability to craft relationships that give us entree into in new markets while strengthening our position in existing ones, give us an advantage that we intend to aggressively pursue."

Mr. Hammond brings more than 20 years of strategic business experience to Unitrends, much of it in the data storage industry. While at nStor Technologies, he was responsible for identifying, acquiring and delivering SANStor, the company's first storage area network (SAN) product. He also developed channel sales and partner alliance programs, similar to those for which he will be responsible for at Unitrends. He led the effort to bring Boca Research's first data security software product to market, and also led the Optical Storage Technology Association (OSTA) as a Director and Chair of Market Development through its MultiRead and Universal Data Format (UDF) initiatives. In addition, he has worked in senior marketing roles at companies such as Pillsbury, Expert and Boca Research.

"Unitrends' focus on delivering the benefits of Business Systems Continuity in an integrated system to small and mid-sized enterprises is unique in the business," Mr. Hammond said. "We see tremendous opportunity to gain significant growth by partnering with other vendors in this sector, and clearly communicating the value of our solutions to firms in vertical sectors who face specific challenges in ensuring that they are back in business when their systems fail. I'm pleased to be joining a company that has superior technology; our opportunity now is to move that technology into the marketplace more quickly than ever before."

Mr. Hammond, who will report to Mr. Wharton, holds both Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Wisconsin.
